Hello Core Group ladies (and others). I came to the forum at last weeks conference. I thought it was very well done, but, of course, there's never enough time to go into everything.
I would like to see people's thoughts on salary negotiations.
I realize this question might be more relevant in some avenues than others. Personally, I have always worked at private CRM companies where I think there is at least some flexibility for negotiations, perhaps more so than in an agency position, for example. In my particular situation I suspect that I am being undervalued compared to my male colleagues (but maybe in reality I just overvalue myself). I think that this partially has to do with my own projections that tie into other topics on this forum, mainly a lack of confidence. In my current position I did negotiate a little when I was first hired and was happy that I did so but wasn't necessarily satisfied with the results. Is this just a general CRM issue? Do we know how women's salaries in CRM generally compare to men's? Am I hallucinating the whole thing?
I would especially like to hear from those who are in a hiring position and maybe what they feel is or isn't appropriate, what might look like someone standing up for themselves in a positive way vs hurting your chance of getting hired (or promoted), how to approach the situation and demonstrate that you're worth the amount of money your asking for... or really any thoughts on the subject from anyone who has experienced the process of salary negotiations on either side!
Thanks!
